These sessions will give elected members the opportunity to learn about parliamentary scrutiny and discuss what local and national scrutiny can learn from each other.
You will get a chance to hear from a chair of a select committee and put your questions directly to them.
The day will also include a “Questioning and chairing skills session”, where we will explore the skills needed to evaluate evidence, understand some issues that you might face, and practice the select committee style questioning and chairing skills that will have been discussed with parliamentary colleagues earlier in the day.
Who should attend:
Elected members - Chairs and Vice-chairs of overview and scrutiny committees
The seminars will run from 11.00am to 16:00. Please click here to see a draft programme of how the day will run. There will be opportunities to attend select committee meetings before or after the organised programme, subject to places being available in the audience of the committees, which we cannot guarantee.
Who should attend
Elected members - Chairs and Vice-chairs of overview and scrutiny committees.
Bookings
We will be charging a nominal fee of £40.00 +VAT per person to cover our costs.
Places will be offered for each seminar on a first-come-first-served basis (prioritising councils which were not able to attend the previous series) Only place per council is available.
