Introduction to scrutiny

This one day training course provides delegates with an overview of the basic skills and knowledge needed to be an effective scrutineer. Covering everything from the legislation that governs scrutiny, work planning, basic questioning and interrogation, building relationships and community engagement. Building on the core principle of fostering a culture of openness and transparency the day will help delegates to understand the best way of managing relationships with other councillors and officers to ensure scrutiny is seen as an important part of local democracy and integral to an the authority’s governance arrangements.

Places cost £195 + VAT per person for Local Authority delegates and £225 + VAT per person for commercial sector delegates.
