RE: Local Democracy, Economic Development and Construction
Apologies - I have no idea why several entries were added at once.
I was going to say that the above has passed into law - does anyone have any details about what this means for scrutiny? Presumably it will be the same as previous acts where nothing apparently happens until regulations are issued a couple of years later? |

RE: Local Democracy, Economic Development and Construction
Hi Robert, I have deleted the duplicate posts now. This is a continuing problem, unfortunately. I think it relates to the use of the "tab" key to move between fields, but that is just my guess.
The relevant provisions of the Act (ie Part 1) come into force on "a day to be appointed by the Secretary of State". Presumably we can expect a commencement order before too long. CLG have recently advised that they want to commence by April next year (understandably). Whether this will be preceded by regulations I don't know at this stage, but from the detail in the Act (particularly on petitions) I suspect that regs may not be necessary or desirable. Chapter 4, Part 1 (tenants services) comes into force immediately, however. This may be of relevance if you are conducting housing or CBL reviews at the moment. The full Act as passed can be found on the OPSI website now that it has received Royal Assent. |

RE: Local Democracy, Economic Development and Construction
Does anyone know whether any guidance will be published in respect of the Act. I do appreciate that he Act will come into force on a day to be appointed by the Secretary of State - do we know when this might be and whether there is a timetable?
Kind regards Lynne. |

The explanatory note has just come out and says: "... section 31 comes into force on a day appointed by the Secretary of State. Sections 32 and 33 come into force two months after the Act is passed." Section 31 is the Scrutiny Office requirement. S.32 is the part about joint scrutiny arrangements and so presumably takes effect in md-January. |
