Changing relationship between Local authorities, schools and academies
I will be undertaking a review on the changing environment and relationships between the local authority, schools and academies shortly and was wondering if anyone had done anything similar. How is the changing relationship between schools, academies, the Council and wider community impacting upon issues that need to be addressed.

At this point the question is too wide and it would be helpful to know if anyone has done anything on this topic at this time.

Thanks

Angelika

RE: Changing relationship between Local authorities, schools and academies
Hi Angelika - you could I suppose focus on one or more of the "middle tier" issues - the LGiU have recently put out some interesting research on this, we put out a policy briefing on the subject earlier in the year and we have another more detailed publication out on the subject in the next couple of weeks.

RE: Changing relationship between Local authorities, schools and academies
Hi Angelica

We've just completed a review on this topic in Hackney. There's a webpage all about it over here, and the draft report has just been published over here.

Please feel free to get in touch if you'd like any more information.

Regards,
Gareth

RE: Changing relationship between Local authorities, schools and academies
Hi Angelica

At Harrow Scrutiny Members are focussing on several aspects of the relationship with academy schools:
- strategic oversight & enabling
- school place planning
- monitoring educational achievement and key measures such as exclusions and absence
- how well the Council serves the academies overall
- the impact of fewer schools using the Council’s services e.g. on the quality of service non-academies receive, loss of SLA revenue & risks to the Council and the continued provision of services by the Council in that context.

Is that what your work is covering? Happy to discuss further.

Kind regards

Guy
