RE: Joint Working with Police Authorities for Crime and Disorder Scrutiny
I'm sure colleagues will be forthcoming with examples, but just to encourage you in the meantime the overall winner of our 2009 Good Scrutiny Awards was a joint entry from Suffolk County Council, Ipswich Borough Council and the Suffolk Police Authority (http://www.cfps.org.uk/news/cfps-news/?id=128)

RE: Joint Working with Police Authorities for Crime and Disorder Scrutiny
We were approached by ours too and we're co-opting an Independent member of Kent Police Authority when we undertake scrutiny of the CDRP. The only issue we've come across so far was some uncertainty amongst our Members about what KPA actually did and whether to co-opt an elected or independent member. The KPA therefore provided us with some really useful information on what the KPA did and how membership was established, after which our Members agreed it would be best to co-opt an Independent member so that there wouldn't be any political bias or anything. The first CDRP scrutiny meeting is on 7 September, so we'll see how it goes...

RE: Joint Working with Police Authorities for Crime and Disorder Scrutiny
In North Yorkshire the Police Authority has been working with all seven district councils, county council and the City of York, reviewing CSP plans / Policing Pledge and a number of local issues. The current structure involves a none voting co-opted member on all O&S committees, the member is a link member from NYPA , allowing a strategic overview on policing within an area.
The Police Authority has also recruited an O&S support officer to provide O&S committees with information and reports, preventing further burden on Council O&S officers. |
