RE: Workshop event to compile the annual scrutiny work programme
Wolverhampton carry out a scrutiny away day each year to consider topics for scrutiny.
Partners, Officers and Members attend and equally contribute to work sessions to identify issues of concern. The event is well attended and results in a number of topics which are prioritied and approved at Scrutiny Board. Wrexham Council observed a session a couple of years ago, I am happy to share our process. Email Deborah.Breedon@wolverhampton.gov.uk for further information |

RE: Workshop event to compile the annual scrutiny work programme
Last year we tried this as a joint meeting of all our scrutiny members. Groups looked at the budget and areas of priority developed an approach to the work plan.
We held in one evening quite a number attended and felt it very worthwhile. We are looking at something similar this year. |

RE: Workshop event to compile the annual scrutiny work programme
For those who do this: how do you ensure that such workshops / awaydays also take into account public concerns? Obviously things are filtered up through councillors from their constituents, but to what extent do the public have an active input into the work programme?

Ed
Public participation is a constant issue here. People are usually prepared to contribute to an examination that interests them but we have found it very difficult to get suggestions for topics. We would try to get public suggestions in a parallel process anad feed them into the workshop evening. We did think about involving the public but at this stage it does not seem feasible - perhaps further down the line. We would welcome any ideas, particulary any that have been shown to produce results! Keith |

We send a pack out to Members in advance of the session, including SCS, LAA and corporate priorities; perception survey results such as place survey and planned actions - Local Neighbourhood Plans, service priorities etc. What we did in addition this year bearing in mind the duty to involve was:- 1. |
