WAG Consultation on Welsh Scrutiny Arrangements

RE: WAG Consultation on Welsh Scrutiny Arrangements
It's an interesting document and well worth a read, even for the English.

Of particular interest is the stuff on political issues in scrutiny - political proportionality in chairing and outlawing of whipping are both in there. I am all for the latter but I am not sure about the former.

The "adequate officer support for scrutiny" suggestion is also a good one and goes further than the English "stat scrutiny officer" requirement. Very welcome.

We will be providing a response and I am liaising with Tim Buckle at the WLGA over whether it should be a joint CfPS/WLGA response or whether we're doing separate ones.

You beat me to it Dave! I was going to canvass opinion via the message board too. Only just had a quick look but would be interested in views. I think the section on Opp Chairs allows Local Authorities to step outside the requirements if thats what works for them. Would be interested to see if that is reflective of the document as a whole. Interested to see ref to independent audit chairs too.

I would be interested to see the duty to promote democracy extended further than simply providing information about government. I know the idea of a requirement to produce local democracy plans has been suggested before.

Do select committees have proportionality for chairs?

I am also interested to hear everyones views on this, I had a quick read through of it this morning.
This is my first time posting on here, but have found the forum very useful since starting in Ceredigion as the Scrutiny Support Officer in September.
