RE: CRB Checks
hi, i supported a review which looked at the issue of crb checks for staff working in temp accomodation placed by the council. As part of this review there was a discussion about the checks on Councillors - this is response I had back from officer to this question

The Panel also queried the requirements for Cabinet Members to have Criminal Record Bureau (CRB) checks in view of their position and also whether they should have an enhanced CRB check.

I have been advised that both Councillor Mrs P Patten, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, and Councillor Mrs G Fellows, Cabinet Members for Schools, have only had a standard CRB check.

However, following further recent discussions it was now been agreed that both Councillors will have an enhanced CRB check. This work will be done as part of an overall review of Members role descriptions and in anticipation of planned legislative changes.

The aim of the review will be to produce an updated list on those Cabinet roles for which a CRB check is needed, so that the group leaders can have this in advance of allocating roles.

hope this helps
