RE: Tourism Review
The first scrutiny review I did at Harrow (back in 2005) was one on tourism. We managed to argue for the retention of the council's tourism officer on the grounds that tourism makes a significant - and, at that time (by our council) unrecognised - contribution to economic development. It wasn't a review that had a colossal impact I'm afraid. Tourism and economic development more generally are issues where it'll be difficult for you to carry out a review and then return to it next year able to measure a defined outcome - it's all ludicrously long-term in nature.
Presumably you will want to speak to neighbouring councils - Blackpool in particular. I'd also speak to Fylde BC and the county to get a more general view, but I imagine that you'll be planning this anyway. |

RE: Tourism Review
Peter - just following up on Ed's point, at Blackpool we'd be happy to contribute and assist in any way we can.

RE: Tourism Review
Thanks, y'all.
Can anyone tell me which the authorities were that decided to withdraw their tourism services altogether? Or, are there other authroities were reviews have led to the funding of tourism services being significantly reduced? There is nothing to suggest that Wyre is going down that road, but the information would be helpful to our work. Nor is there any suggestion that I need that information before planning my summer holidays. Thanks. |
