RE: Been there, done that ...
Hi Nick
I'll be sad to see you go - your wealth of experience means your contributions, comments and knowledge (including about song lyrics) have been a great help to me. Hope you have a great retirement - do you have any specific plans? Good luck for the future Alix |

aboswell Wrote:Hi Nick Thanks for the kind words, Alix. Plans: I write articles and the occasional book on air warfare and I want to do more. I've got over 15000 pages of wartime intelligence documents (which I'm weird enough to find interesting!) copied on my laptop, so I've got something to be getting on with. And if I ever miss local governement, there's always the box set of "The Sopranos." |

RE: Been there, done that ...
"Another One Bites The Dust" - Queen
"I'm Gonna Run Away From You" - Tami Lynn "The Times They Are A'Changing" - Bob Dylan "The End" - Blur "I Blame The Government" - Carter USM "Wind Up", "Critique Oblique", "Overseer Overture", "Flight From Lucifer" - all Jethro Tull There is a Tull song for every occasion. Sorry to hear you're going Nick - mind you, the book sounds interesting! I echo the comments made above about this being a sad loss to the scrutiny function - we need as many people as possible with the long term, practical experience of scrutiny and its place in the authority rather than wet behind the ears know-it-alls like myself. I would very much appreciate your comprehensive analysis of scrutiny both nationally and locally if you want to release any pent up rage. |

RE: Been there, done that ...
1. Bad Religion - "Scrutiny"
One - two - three - four - five - six - seven - eight! Days go marching by There and back I never wait for a confident reply Truth is stark and leaves its mark as limited constraints And the most difficult part is accepting what the future may bring It seems like a lifetime of scrutiny Wither the path, whether worth the fee A lifetime of scrutiny And it seems as though I can't be sure of anything anymore! One - two - three - four - five - six - seven - eight! Years go flying by No one seems to hesitate or cast an earnest eye Judgment comes in many forms but never scare or shy And the litany is long as the confidence is strong in their delight It seems like a lifetime of scrutiny Prejudicial waters wash over me A lifetime of scrutiny And the words just don't equate with sense or sanity anymore! One - two - three - four - five - six - seven - eight! The faces and the names Shattered hopes and stolen dreams and no one left to blame Is it possible to win this pointless mortal game? 'Cuz when death comes it's swift and my friend, We end up and the same It seems like a lifetime of scrutiny Wither the path and whether worth the fee A lifetime of scrutiny And it seems as though I can't be sure of anything anymore! 2. The long and winding road - Beatles 3. Thank you very much - The Scaffold Good luck Nick , your comments will be missed ! |

RE: Been there, done that ...
Perhaps we should sing that at the end of our Annual Conference like the Labour Party do with "The Red Flag"
