Paul

Some OSCs have already provided a response - they are listed in the Ipsos Mori report on the consultation outcomes (see our news item). Others may well be using the outcomes from the consultation to inform their responses between now and 5th October.

If colleagues have got examples of the kinds of evidence base they have used to frame recommendations about the proposals for service changes it would be useful to share them here - but of course you can contact Paul directly.

RE: Review of Children's Congenital Heart Services in England
We now have a joint health overview and scrutiny committee for north central London (Barnet, Camden, Enfield, Islington and Haringey) and it will be looking at this issue at its next meeting on 19 September. We will therefore - I assume - be putting together a response shortly after this. The general principles obehind the proposed changes are not dissimilar to many other reconfigurations e.g. the importance of "critical mass". It is the application of the principles that will probably be the area of most concern to Members in framing their response. In particular, there are specific isssues for London which the presentation that will be given to the meeting by the Specialised Commissioning Group will highlight.

Please feel free to contact me if you would like any more information - I would also be interested in seeing how others are approaching this.

Here at Hampshire County Council our HOSC is planning to provide a further response by the 5 Oct deadline. Our response reinforces areas of concern such as impact on PICU networks and Grown Up Congenital Heart Patients. The draft response is due to go to our HOSC meeting next Tuesday for approval, it can be viewed on our meeting reports system:

http://www3.hants.gov.uk/councilmeetings...3303&tab=2

(it is appendix 3 to the 'proposals to vary or develop services' report)

If anyone would like to confer further on this, happy to do so.

Marie
