DCLG Consultation Document.
It would be very useful if colleagues could share their responses/ views on the issue of 'how mayors can best be subject to effective local scrutiny?' as ask[/font]ed in the consultation document 'What can a mayor do for your city?'

Just to expand on this, our response will focus pretty much exclusively on the accountability arrangements for executive mayors, assuming that the Government's preferred approach is followed.

We'll try to draw on research and experience around scrutiny in other mayor areas, so if you would like to speak to us (in confidence naturally) about your experience with the mayoral system if you are involved in the scrutiny of it, please let me know.

We'll be submitting our response before Christmas and I plan to circulate it to the National O&S Forum before doing so.
