Save the date - CfPS Annual Conference 2012
Powerful, Accountable, Local Centre for Public Scrutiny 10th Annual Conference – Tuesday 12 June
Good Scrutiny Awards 2012 – Tuesday 12 June
Officer and Member Development Day – Wednesday 13 June
Local Government House, London, SW1 3HZ

CfPS’s 10th annual conference – Powerful, Accountable, Local – offers an unrivalled opportunity for those involved in scrutiny to:
  • learn about the latest developments in local government and public service accountability
  • share ideas through workshops and networking
  • listen to high profile speakers discuss how scrutiny can continue to make a positive contribution in the delivery of public services.
Confirmed speakers already include Professor Sir Michael Marmot and Ben Page, Chief Executive of Ipsos MORI. Prices will be reduced from last year and bookings will open early next month but save the date in your diaries now!

Exploring the theme of ‘hyper-local’ accountability, this year’s conference will examine the opportunities and potential problems of the changing nature of accountability across local government, health, housing and related fields.
  • Will the ambition to involve more neighbourhoods and communities in service delivery hamper the ability of councils to effectively make strategic decisions across their local area?
  • How will scrutiny of public service delivery be impacted by growing voice and choice of service users through developments such as personalisation?
  • How can scrutiny engage with communities at the hyper-local level in the face of ever tighter budgets?
Powerful, Accountable, Local will help delegates to explore these issues and be better informed to tackle the challenges that lie ahead. The Good Scrutiny Awards will celebrate the impact that scrutiny has across a wide range of policy and service areas. The Officer and Member Development Day – which we are offering but will only run if there is sufficient interest – will be a full day of interactive learning. It will aim to provide delegates with tools, tips and techniques to increase the impact that scrutiny can have at a local level.
