CfPS 10th Annual Conference
Powerful, Accountable, Local

12/13 June 2012 London, SW1P 3HZ

The CfPS annual conference is the scrutiny event of the year. Powerful, Accountable, Local will interpret the non-executive role in light of powers pushed from Whitehall and national regulators, beyond local authorities down to local communities and neighbourhoods. How will scrutiny and accountability work in this new landscape? Does localism make accountability and scrutiny easier? How do we prepare meet the challenges of radical structural change? The CfPS annual conference will explore ‘hyper-localism’ – the continued drive for scrutiny to be located at even greater local levels down to communities, neighbourhoods, streets and individuals - within the context of austerity and how to better connect local people to the process of accountability.

Programme highlights include:
  • Rt Hon Francis Maude, Minister for the Cabinet Office (TBC)
  • Prof Sir Michael Marmot, Director, International Institute of Society & Health, UCL
  • Ben Page, Chief Executive of Ipsos MORI
  • Panel debate on ‘hyper-localism’
  • Workshops – exploring best practice highlighted by the Good Scrutiny awards such as: working together; transforming services; innovation; raising the profile as well as CfPS programme areas such as health reform and social housing
  • Your opportunity to judge your peers and help us select the winner of the ‘Scrutineers’ Choice’ award which will be presented during the Good Scrutiny Awards ceremony.

The Good Scrutiny Awards for 2012 will be awarded at a reception following the conference. Complementing the main conference, on 13th June we will be running an ‘Officer Scrutiny Camp’ and a ‘Member Scrutiny Academy’

RE: CfPS 10th Annual Conference
Hi Stacy, yes, as we speak I am putting the finishing touches to the conference report. It's been a bit delayed simply because I was out all week last week at the LGA Conference but it, alongside all the presentations and other material from the conference, will be online very soon.
