Forthcoming policy briefings
Hi all,
I am just letting you know about future Policy Briefings, between now and the autumn. Policy Briefing 17: collaborative organisational areas in Wales Policy Briefing 18: universal credit and benefit reforms Policy Briefing 19: regeneration and economic development I am hoping to get all three out by the end of July. I'm interested in any views you might have on potential topics for later in the year. As you know, Policy Briefings are intended to give a picture of developing national policy on areas of current importance, and some ideas as to how scrutiny can play an active and valuable role in such areas. RE: Forthcoming policy briefings
This is really useful to know Ed, would be interested in regen and ED briefing as our members want to do something on jobs and the economy.
would it be worthwhile to do something on transport policy as there seem to be a lot of policy changes at the moment and we're always exercised about this in Bristol because of political wranglings with n'bouring authorities eg being able to set up a transport company, how to encourage safer cycling etc. rgds Sian Hi all, I am just letting you know about future Policy Briefings, between now and the autumn. RE: Forthcoming policy briefings
Hi Sian, yes, I can certainly do something about national developments in transport policy, ITAs, local involvement in rail franchising decisions, that sort of thing. Perhaps in the context of scrutiny's partnership powers.

RE: Forthcoming policy briefings
I can indeed do something on emergency planning but it would be useful to know more about the context - are we talking about councils own planning responsibilities, scrutiny of and at fire and rescue authorities, or both? And more?
To update you all, because the Draft Local Audit Bill has now been published I will be knocking the regeneration PB to the autumn and putting out a briefing on the future of local public audit in the next fortnight instead. Research and Information Manager, CfPS |

I was thinking the response of the council and its local partners to events like recent floods , the powers of local authorities to hold its own authority to account and also staff in other agencies forr decisions about the use of resources and the effectiveness of their plans. The changes in health and planned introduction of police crime panels will create an interesting set of relationships which a paper on emergency planning could explore. |

RE: Forthcoming policy briefings
Thanks Earl - interesting points. I will put it in the programme with a view to it probably being number 22 - so, not out until the late autumn / early winter, I expect.
