Proposals to update local accountability have been put forward as part of a consultation launched today on regulations governing local authority health scrutiny. The proposed changes are intended to strengthen accountability of NHS services and support effective service change. They are also intended to give local authorities greater freedom and flexibility in how they deliver their functions.

The consultation runs from 12th July until 7th September 2012.
