Scrutiny within District Councils

Scrutiny within District Councils
I am interested to know how Scrutiny is structured within other district councils; specifically Districts because they are more likely to be a similar size to our Council.
Is it viewed as a part-time function, or something that requires at least one FTE?
If part-time, does the function depend on other teams within the council, besides the Scrutiny Officer and Democratic Services?
Also, any ideas for developing community engagement with Scrutiny would be useful.

RE: Scrutiny within District Councils
Hi Sarah

There are a number of district councils that I have been working with on the Health Inequalities programme that may be able to help you. Also Staffordshire CC have been looking at their tiered structures and Derbyshire CC have been working with CfPS to look at how the tiers of government can work together better to improve health outcomes.

With regards to community engagement in scrutiny - have you seen our publication: Peeling the onion, Tipping the scales and appreciative scrutiny? They have some useful tips - but if you want a conversation about it please give me a call.
