We have quite a few requests for Training from our Scrutiny members and while working with our training team we were wondering about the idea of using a few clips of meetings to illustrate ways to chair.

Has anyone tried anything like this and did it work well?

and does anyone have any ideas about where might be a good place to get clips from. We are reluctant to use clips from our own Council meetings as using familiar faces might prejudice members (whether positively or negatively!)

Any thoughts much appreciated.

interesting idea and would be interested to see how this works out. In previous authorities, where Members were open to 'constructive' criticism, we had peer review Members sit in on OSC meetings and meet privately with Chairmen after the meetings to provide them with feedback. This worked quite well and might be an alternative for you, or something to do in addition to this.

One possibility on the video front would be to obtain some videos from the Parliamentary Select Committees, they are all available from the website (http://www.parliamentlive.tv/Main/Home.aspx) so you could identify some examples and just stream the relevant bits into your session?

Would be interested to hear what you do.

thanks for the information about peer review members. At the moment we are looking at re-presenting our training offer to Scrutiny Commission Members in combination with a more clear guidebook.

I will keep you informed as to how we proceed.
