Scrutiny does not just voice the concern of the public but also, frequently, engages the public to enable them to voice their own concerns.
This award celebrates the ways in which an organisations, groups and committees have helped people to be active citizens, shaping services that affect them.
The judging panel looked at how communities have been engaged rather than just consulted and will also look for engagement with diverse communities.
The Local Government Information Unit is an independent and influential think tank with a cross-party membership. Its aim is to strengthen and promote local democracy. For 25 years we have represented the interests of local authorities by providing practical advice and training, enabling them to improve the delivery of local services.
