September 09, 2008
Venue: Jurys Great Russell Street Hotel, 16-22 Great Russell Street, LONDON, WC1B 3NN
The Government has now published its White Paper on Community Empowerment, ‘Communities in Control’. The Paper offers a framework for revitalising local democracy and enhancing active participation in your community and forms the blueprint for legislation which will fundamentally affect the way your council works with its residents.
The LGA is holding a comprehensive one-day event that will get to the heart of the issues in the Empowerment White Paper that matter most to you. Imaginative workshops will demonstrate examples of pioneering work in community leadership, new technologies, asset transfer and participatory budgeting and will invite your input and ideas. Topical plenary sessions will bring together experts and opinion formers and give you the opportunity to hear first-hand, and question, their visions for the future of local government.
Keynote speakers include:
The Rt Hon Hazel Blears MP, Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government
Sir Simon Milton, Chairman, Local Government Association
Cllr Dorothy Thornhill, Elected Mayor, Watford Borough Council
Dr Jane Roberts DBE, Chair, Councillors Commission
Justin Cole, Young Mayor of London Borough of Lewisham
