Developing Effective Tenant Scrutiny & Co-Regulation

Local Government House, Westminster, London, Wednesday 18th April 2012

CfPS and Tenant Advisers logos

Organised by the Centre for Public Scrutiny and Scrutiny Empowerment Partners, this major national learning event will feature a wealth of practical experience from the TSA's Co-Regulatory Champions on getting started and delivering co-regulation and tenant scrutiny.

In the morning expert speakers will provide updates on the latest developments in co-regulation and scrutiny, the new empowerment standards and the role which can be played by tenant panels and other tenant groups in helping landlords improve services and deliver their aims. The afternoon will be given over to practical interactive workshop sessions, giving delegates the chance to talk direct with other tenants and staff, and to share experiences of developing tenant scrutiny.

Every attendee will receive a copy of three brand new CfPS–SEP publications on developing effective tenant and resident scrutiny, packed full of hints, tips and case studies on how to achieve powerful resident scrutiny and challenge.

Are you being served? LGA Consultation on benchmarking residents' perceptions of local government

Understanding resident or customer views is a key element of assessing the effectiveness of an authority, but comparable data on this is currently not easily or cheaply available.

The Local Government Association seeks the views of councils on a proposed set of resident satisfaction questions. The intention is that these questions will be used on a voluntary basis by authorities in their own local surveys and, providing the methodology meets certain quality criteria, that they could then be used by the sector for benchmarking.  This consultation therefore also seeks the views of councils on the proposed guidance on quality criteria and methodology. The closing date of the consultation is Thursday 19 April.  More details available here.

Good Scrutiny Awards - last chance to enter

final reminder to enter

The deadline is approaching fast for entries to the 2012 Good Scrutiny Awards. We're taking entries until the end of March - after that, your chance to have your excellent work highlighted in a national publication, and to be independently, formally recognised, disappears for another year.

We have simplified the application form this year to make it even easier to put your work forward for consideration - it should take you no longer than 30 minutes to fill out.

Shortlisted entries and winners are highlighted in our annual "Successful Scrutiny" publication, cited by CfPS in other publications and contribute directly to the continuous improvement of the scrutiny function across the country.

We think people must have at least one piece of work they are proud of that’s been completed recently, or that you've recently learned has made a significant impact on local people. Why not use a Good Scrutiny Award to build on this success and demonstrate that you are leading the way?

For more information and to submit an entry visit our website
