The Big Care Debate
Shaping the Future of Care Together, the Government’s Green Paper on the future of care and support reform and funding, was launched on 14th July 2009 by Andy Burnham, Secretary of State for Health. The publication of the Green Paper follows last year’s engagement programme during which extensive consultation took place on stakeholders’ expectations, views and priorities for a future system of care and support.
The Green Paper outlines Government’s vision for a high quality National Care Service which aims to help people stay well and independent for as long as possible and which is fair, simple and affordable. Consultation is invited on a number of themes in the Green Paper, including the expectations of the National Care Service, how these might be achieved and the options for funding.
The submission date for consultation responses is 13 November 2009.
The future of social care services - The Health Committee has decided to undertake an inquiry into the future of social care services and is currently inviting written submissions by the deadline of 1st October. Pre-enquiry submissions of written evidence on world class commissioning close on 17th September. In addition the Committee is currently carrying out inquiries into alcohol.
