The 2003 survey of overview and scrutiny in local government
As part of our role to share best practice and support the local authority scrutiny function, CfPS will be carrying out regular research and analysis This summer we undertook our first local government scrutiny survey, in association with the Local Government Chronicle.
We managed to get a respectable 40 per cent response rate over the summer weeks. On those numbers alone it was revealed that there are 5,500 elected members practicing scrutiny.
Summary findings are set out in the pdf file below, along with examples of authorities' most successful scrutiny work to date and priorities for the coming months.
