The aim of the Review is to understand why, according to the Government’s Chief Medical Officer, we are not getting enough physical exercise to benefit our health.
The population of Richmondshire has an ever-increasing proportion of old people, according to Government guidelines, older age begins at 50.
We have sought to find out what our older people are doing for their leisure in an active and passive way. The benefits of moderate intensity physical activity for 30 minutes a day on 3 or more days a week should give a general health benefit to those who participate. The proportion of people engaging in physical activity declines with age. The taking part in any activity whether it be more of a passive social activity than an active one brings benefits to mental health and wellbeing.
To consider the provision or teaching of athletics in the borough.
To assess the quality, range and accessibility of current facilities within
parks and open spaces in Redbridge
• To investigate the costs and potential of housing new facilities such as
cafes, outdoor gyms and meeting areas in parks.
• To explore the development of facilities and services in parks in other councils and how they have benefited local communities and increased
the usage and safety of parks and open spaces
• To evaluate any existing user survey data, talk to Friends and Users groups.
• To undertake consultation and research on what services our communities want in their local parks and opens spaces.
To assess the quality, range and accessibility of current facilities within parks and open spaces in Redbridge, and investigate the cost and potential of developing facilities in parks.
