Supporting health, care & well-being scrutiny

The Centre for Public Scrutiny is the national leader for guidance, advice and support for council scrutiny committees, the NHS and other stakeholders about scrutiny of health, care and well-being issues.

Since 2004 we have been funded by the Department of Health to provide a comprehensive range of support around the development of powers for councils with social services responsibilities to get information from, have questions answered by and make recommendations to people who plan and deliver health services.

The support programme was extended in the second wave to include social care and well-being issues, encouraging council overview and scrutiny committees to take a broad view of health and care and to tackle health inequalities in their widest sense.

Now we have funding for a third wave to maintain and support health scrutiny in the new arrangements set out in the Health and Social Care Bill currently before Parliament.

Our support ranges from published guides and briefings to personal consultancy support and finance for innovative and creative scrutiny. Explore our website to find out how we can help to make scrutiny work for you!
