Annual survey 2006
Thank you to all those who completed the questionnaire for our annual survey of 2006. The response rate, at 63 per cent one of the highest we have recorded to date, with a significant leap in returns from authorities at the district level.

Headline results point to
- a modest increase in the average number of scrutiny officers in and authority (up 0.5 percent to 3.1 fte)
- a decrease in the average amount of discretionary budget available to carry-out the role
- clear indications that policy development and review are the roles at which overview and scrutiny considers itself most effective
- a positive view of future developments in light of recent legislation and policy proposals
