The Dignity in Practice in Adult Health and Social Care Event Office are organising an event on Dignity in Practice in Health and Social Care on the 20th November 2009, jointly with NHS London and the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. OSC members are particularly invited as dignity issues have a bearing on almost all OSC work.

"We  would all like to be treated with dignity when in receipt of health and social  care  services  and regard dignity as a basic human right. But what does  it  mean  in  practice  for  health  and social care professionals to deliver  services  with  dignity  and  for service users to be treated with dignity?  On  this  much debated current topic, how are we dealing with the complexities  of  dignity  in  practice in all aspects of health and social care  for  Londoners?  This timely event provides an opportunity to explore the challenges of practising dignity in health and social care."

The aims of the event are to:

  • Raise awareness about why dignity in care matters;
  • Highlight dignity issues in different settings and for different client groups and communities;
  • Facilitate  discussion  on  dignity  issues in key policy areas across health  and  social care sectors to develop action points to influence good practice.

In  addition,  Ruth  Carnall,  Chief  Executive  of London Strategic Health Authority  will  be  speaking  at  the  conference among other high profile figures.

Registration  will commence at 08:30 with the event starting at 09:15. This will  be  followed  by  lunch,  an  exhibition  and workshops. The event is scheduled to finish at 14:45.
