This pack has been designed for new parent governor representatives elected to serve on the local authority overview and scrutiny committee dealing with education matters. It is structured to provide information and tips on good practice and develop an understanding of how to be effective in the role.
This pack should be used as a resource to support PGRs in their first year, in particular as a focus fordeveloping constructive working relationships with councillor colleagues on the committee, scrutiny support staff and other appropriate officers and councillors with responsibility for education matters.
It is important that the information and advice given in it is interpreted for the local context as not all local authorities work in the same way.
