Scrutiny Development Areas

Following a successful promotional and recruitment campaign, 10 areas have been selected to become national CfPS Scrutiny Deveopment Areas. 13 bids were received in total. These ranged in size from single local authority bids, to large bids covering a whole region. Each bid was very different in terms of ambitions and areas of focus.

Being a Scrutiny Development Area (SDA) provides these areas with a unique and timely opportunity to help to develop and test a resource kit for scrutiny committees across the Country as well as helping to tackle deep-seated inequalities in their patch. With the publication of the Marmot Review on health inequalities 'Fair Society, Fair Lives.' this is an important time for local authorities and their involvement in health inequalities and our work will provide a platform from which to develop further the local authority 'health' role.

The initial intention of the programme was to recruit 4 SDAs, however additional funding and match funding from the North West Employers Organisation has allowed for 10 areas to join the programme.

Below is a summary of the 10 areas and the particpating councils, for more information and updates on the SDAs, you can follow them on the Health Inequalities Programme Community of Practice page
