John Riley is a senior Barrister practising in Criminal Law from his Chambers at 23 Essex Street in London. John specialises in serious violent and sexual crime prosecuting and defending cases involving vulnerable witnesses and defendants especially children with behavioural issues including autism, ADHD and mental health problems. A Councillor in the London Borough of Hillingdon for eleven years, John has held a number of Chairmanships within the Council which focus on scrutiny and is currently the Chairman of the External Services Select Committee scrutinising Health Trusts and all the civilian service that work with the Council.
He is also a member of the Criminal Bar Association, a member of the Board of the Conservative Councillors Association and a trustee of the Combined Ruislip Charity Trust. He is also a governor at Field End Infants School Eastcote.
John is a specialist in scrutiny and regularly conducts sessions, lectures and seminars for other authorities through his work with the Local Government Association (LGA) and the Centre for Public Scrutiny. John is a peer mentor and peer reviewer for the LGA and has undertaken many commissions around the country.
He is also a member of the Conservative and Unionist Party and the West Ruislip Branch of the Conservative party. He is also Deputy Chairman (Membership) of the Ruislip Northwood and Pinner Conservative Association
