£20,572.50 per annum pro rata (£10.55 per hour)

Subject to increase in line with the London Living Wage

We are recruiting a Research Assistant to support us in research and report drafting around the operation of local authority overview and scrutiny committees.

The Research Assistant’s principal tasks will be to:

  • Provide support to two major research projects:
  • Provide support in securing responses to CfPS’s annual survey of overview and scrutiny in local government;
  • Provide background research and report drafting on other projects;
  • Provide assistance on events and conferences.

This work will be carried out under the oversight of CfPS’s Director of Campaigns and Research and alongside other members of the CfPS team.

The workplace

This post is a full-time position for six months, 37.5 hours per work. Generally speaking, the postholder would be expected to keep to standard office hours, but there may (with notice) be a requirement that some early morning and evening working will be required. Time off in lieu will be available for these instances.


Applicants should submit a short CV outlining their previous education and employment experience, with a covering letter setting out how they meet the characteristics in the person specification.

Applicants will be shortlisted if they meet the criteria in the personal specification. Final selection will be by way of a 40-minute interview preceded by a 10 minute presentation, which shortlisted candidates will have an opportunity to prepare in advance.
